In the early days of me writing the book about the Tower of London, Crawford (one of the four Yeoman Serjeants) was incredibly helpful to me. He quietly gave me all kinds of tips and ideas about how to gain information and was very encouraging and supportive. I marvelled at some of his stories and his anecdotes were full of humour and interest. I was privileged to attend his final evening tour before retirement and then supper at the Yeoman’s Bar before we attended the Ceremony of the Keys. Crawford had already had a distinguished Army career and then was highly successful at the Tower. He has been sorely missed by his colleagues and of course by me.
